ALAN KOS
Alan Kos was born in Belarus in 1978. He spent his entire childhood and youth in Ukraine. As a teenager he studied at art school and then successfully completed College of Arts Grekova, Odessa. Later he continued his education in Russia, at the art institute in a workshop under under the leadership of Professor A. Pokrovsky in the city of Krasnoyarsk. There Alan actively participated in city and regional exhibitions. Its main direction can be considered figurative art. Alan's work is always reactionary and connected to current issues. His paintings, even landscapes, always reveal an understanding of what is happening in the world around him. Freedom and the search for meaning are the leitmotif of his creative path. His works embody a subjective response to issues of everyday life, such as morality, ethics, pedagogy, philosophical and religious thought. Alan uses various forms of fine art, such as painting and drawing, as tools to bring his main ideas to life. These tools include portraits, landscapes. Their goal is an exercise or sketch that helps bring out its main ideas. For the last 7 years before moving to the USA, Alan’s family lived in Moscow. In 2016 he moved to live in America. In California, Alan worked as a truck driver for more than four years because he had to feed his family, but he did not stop painting, traveling all over America. This allowed him to see and be inspired by the beauty of different places, and his artistic studies in the open air reflect the ease of first impressions, they convey not so much a form as a sense of reality. Tormented by the fact that he was not doing what his soul wanted, Alan Kos decided to leave the truck business and completely engage in creativity. He understood that it would not be easy. But his beloved wife and children fully supported him in this decision. Living in debt, eating modestly, Alan continued to pursue his goal. He did not lose heart. After all, his goal is his mission. He understood that his task was to broadcast what he felt, realized, absorbed from another world, which was not accessible to everyone. Inspired, he tries to embody on canvas eternal thoughts that he himself was able to comprehend. Giving people Light through creativity is his main task. Alan devoted the last few years of his life, while still a truck driver, to a series of works “FOR PEACE. IN MEMORY OF ALL INNOCENT VICTIMS KILLED IN WAR”, exploring the theme of peacemaking, humanity and mercy. Over time, the project acquired the name “WHAT DO YOU SEE?” Thus, allowing the viewer to recognize meanings close to his heart. He asks complex philosophical questions about good and evil, and his works reflect not only the global problems of countries and nations, but also the internal struggle of man with himself. In essence, each painting is a meeting with the inner self. The question is, are we ready for such a meeting? Alan Kos pays great attention to the choice of title for each of his paintings, as he believes that the title is the key to understanding the images and allegories that the painting carries. His goal as an artist and philosopher is to inspire the viewer to see in his work more than just a layer of paint on a canvas. Alan invites each viewer to see his own reflection in the picture. Understand something for yourself.
